Porsche Mission S: The Essence of the Sports Car Reinterpreted
Vision model previews a permanent mid-engined super sports car platform above the 911 and a more driver-focused design direction

NEW YORK — Porsche presented the Mission S as part of its Sportwagenschmiede '35 strategic realignment, using the vision model to preview both an evolved design identity and a new mid-engined super sports car platform. Executive Board Chairman Dr. Michael Leiters positioned the future model above the 911 as a permanent, versatile addition to the customer offering rather than a one-off hypercar. Porsche's announcement does not specify a powertrain, output, price or production timing for a roadgoing version.
The Mission S made its world premiere on a pier in Queens, New York, overlooking the Manhattan skyline. Porsche selected the site because the first photographs of the 550 Spyder were taken at the same pier in 1953. The company linked that car, its first super sports car, to the Mission S as a statement about how its history will inform future design and the brand's direction in the United States.
Its exterior combines torpedo fenders, the familiar roofline and a pronounced width-to-height ratio with a wraparound line connecting the front and rear light signatures. Porsche cited design references from the 911 and 911 GT1, the 959, a cooling treatment recalling the 917 and lightweight wheels developed from the 928's dial design. An integrated active rear wing and a car-in-car treatment at the rear are also part of the concept.
The cabin is deliberately purist and driver-focused, with architecture informed by the 550 Spyder and 356 and two defining lines running through the dashboard and doors. A five-tube instrument cluster is centered by a tachometer with an analogue needle and a display behind it; the instrument arrangement can change with the selected driving mode. Physical push-pull controls provide direct access to comfort and driving functions, while the key holder remains to the left of the steering wheel.
Porsche omitted a permanently integrated center display and fixed passenger display. In their place, the concept uses a retractable MagSafe-compatible smartphone holder when navigation or information is needed, supported by a streamlined My Porsche app that can also change the circular instruments to historically inspired designs. The show car's Firn White Metallic, Light Red Metallic, Black Chrome and Special Black finishes reinterpret traditional Porsche Motorsport colors.
