Volkswagen Concept Vehicle Mission Efficiency Sets World Record on Continental Tires

Tires a key component in achieving world record; rolling resistance around 25 percent below threshold for EU tire label's highest class A rating

HANOVER, GERMANY — Continental said a specially developed concept tire based on its EcoContact 7 helped Volkswagen's Mission Efficiency concept vehicle set a certified world record on a 1,278.36 km drive from Wolfsburg to Vienna, with consumption of 7.51 kWh per 100 km including charging losses and one charging stop. Continental reported the concept tire's rolling resistance at 4.9 kg per metric ton, about 25 percent below the EU label Class A threshold, and described sidewall, tread compound and differentiated vulcanization work aimed at lower resistance and low rolling noise.
